Here are some great ideas for Food, Games and decoration's for your fairy party:
Invitations
If you are feeling really enthusiastic and want to make your own invitations, here are some ideas:
You can use a message like "(Your child's name) would like to invite all fairies to celebrate his/her _____ Birthday at a fairy picnic"
You can create your invitations in the shape of a Toadstool, Fairy or Fairy Wings
When the little ones arrive if they are not dressed as a fairy why not have some fairy wings or dresses waiting for them to put on as they enter the door.
Decorations
I used round polystyrene balls, cut them in half and taped a tube to the cut side. I then painted the toadstool white and painted red spots over the top of the toadstool. Well I had my niece and nephews paint them for me - they had a lot of fun and I just touched them up. You can also use fake vine leaves, streamers and tull - I brought mine on TradeMe.
Table Cloth, if you get a large roll of news print. You can create your own table cloth. Cut out some templates for fairy's, butterflies, toadstools, trees, birds, etc. Put the templates on your sheet of news print and then use a sponge dipped in craft paint and blot the paint inside the template. Allow to dry thoroughly before using table cloth.
I used my table cloth as a picnic mat and put cushions all over it for the children to sit on.
Bubble machine
Create a poster to put on the front door saying "Enter Pixie Hollow Here" You can add the some pictures of fairies to the poster or try to draw a pixie dust tree.
I decorated our deck with tull, fake vine leaves, toadstools and streamers.
Goodie Bags
You can buy small organsa bags and put in them some fairy dust - little sparkly flowers, stars, etc. You can also give each child a little wishing stone. You just buy little shiny glass stones and you can use craft paints to put swirls on them or even the child's first initial.
Food
There are lots of options for fairy cakes. I made a toadstool with a fairy sitting on top. I just used a doll cake tin for the top of the toadstool and the base, I just filled the tin to two different levels. I made the fairy out of icing. (I recommend letting the fairy harden a bit before you putting on the top of your toadstool.)
I had a fairy, star and butterfly cookie cutter. I made fairy bread in these shapes as well as biscuits and I made cheesy star wands (just puff pastry in the shape of a wand with a long thin piece of pastry attached for the handle. I then sprinkled with cheese).
Party Games
How about making fairy wands? These can be made out of MDF & dowel or out of stiff card board. Cut a star shape out of the MDF, then cut some lengths of dowel, make sure the diameter of the down is smaller than the thickness of the MDF. Then drill a hole in the bottom of each MDF star the same diameter as the dowel and glue the dowel in place. Make one for each child. I would recommend preparing these and getting all the decorating items ready at least the week before the party. You can put the decorating items into containers i.e. ribbon, glitter, paint, glitter pens, etc and let the kids decorate their own fairy wand. You can have some stations looking after each step of the decoration process - you will need some parents to help with this. For example, station one might be to wrap some ribbon around the dowel, the parent can use a glue gun to glue it in place. Station 2 might be the painting station, station 3 for gluing on sparkles, glitter, etc.
If you are using card board, just cut the wand out of one piece of card board and let the kids decorate.
Making a wand in advance can help you decide what stations and equipment you need to decorate the wands. It also provides an example for the kids and parents.
I recommend labeling each wand to ensure you know who each wand belongs to.
You can make cookies ready for decorating and allow the children to decorate their own cookie. There can be in star, fair or butterfly shapes and you can have edible glitter, sprinkles, bowls with different coloured icing sugar.
Pin the star on the wand
Musical Toadstools
Treasure hunt, you can put together a collection of items then hide them around the house or in your garden for each guest to find, these can include: small fairy wand, toadstool, bag of fairy dust, fairy stickers, fairy figurine. Whatever you want, each child collects one of each item. This is a great way of the children collecting their own items for their goodie bag.
Pinata - You can get these in the shape of a Fairy
